Meet & Greet events allow us to promote greyhound adoption. These public, “hands-on” gatherings allow members of the public an opportunity to experience an “in the fur” meeting and the opportunity to touch and interact with our docile, friendly greyhounds.
It also allows potential adopters (or casual observers) to see how ex-racing greyhounds behave and how they adapt to family life. Public exposure and education is extremely important in exhibiting to the public the suitability and availability of greyhounds as family pets. Tired Dog Rescue strives to find homes for dogs in need, build quality relationships with responsible owners, and preserve current dog-family homes by seeking solutions to financial, behavioral, and situational dog problems. We believe the lives of homeless, abandoned and abused dogs are just as precious as dogs that currently have a loving home.
We believe that all dogs deserve a loving home despite their age, medical condition and/or disabilities. We provide whatever medical care is needed regardless of cost. All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm negative and current on vaccinations before being placed. We have many offsite events as we work out of foster homes (no facility).

Gulf Coast Search and Rescue
GCSAR TRAINING
Gulf Coast Search and Rescue Mississippi coastal area primarily
How SAR Dogs Can Help:
Because of their ultra sensitive hearing, night vision, endurance and keen sense of smell, dogs can play a key role in search and rescue efforts. Their skills make each dog team as useful as twenty to thirty trained human searchers in locating a missing person.
SAR dogs usefulness lies in the fact that every human has a scent - one that is not detectable by humans, but is by dogs. Trained SAR dogs use either air scenting or trailing techniques to help find people.
Our objective is to provide trained search and rescue personnel and resources to law enforcement, fire rescue, US Coast Guard, and any other agency which requests our assistance in locating missing persons, recovery of drowning victims or cadaver location.
Our primary response areas are the Mississippi coastal counties of Hancock, Harrison and Jackson and expanding to Mobile and Baldwin county in Alabama.
Some of our resources consist of:
-Search and Rescue Dog Teams -Man Tracking Team
-Forensic and Cold Case Team -Horseback Teams
-Therapy Teams

Baptist Medical Center Pet Therapy Program
Baptist Medical Center 1225 North State Street Jackson, MS 39202
Some people say there’s nothing warmer than a cold, wet nose. That’s why Baptist is pleased to offer pet therapy for patients at Baptist Medical Center.
Pet therapy involves using a certified pet therapy dog to bring joy and comfort to patients. Pet therapy has been proven to have many health benefits, including reducing blood pressure, reducing stress and pain.
Dogs in Baptist’s Pet Therapy Program have had basic obedience and “Good Citizen” certification. They are further trained and have passed the Therapy Dogs International (TDI) certification test. The TDI evaluation ensures that the dog has a pleasant, mild temperament; is not frightened around a crowd or medical equipment, tolerates rough handling and touching and demonstrates advanced obedience skills useful in a public setting.
TDI provides four levels of certification for pet therapy dogs to acknowledge their volunteer commitment. They are:
• TDIA: TDI Active, 50 documented visits
• TDIAOV: TDI Active Outstanding Volunteer, 150 documented visits
• TDIRVA: TDI Remarkable Volunteer Achievement, 250 documented visits
• TDIEVA: TDI Exceptional Volunteer Achievement, 350 documented visits
Currently, there are six pet therapy dogs at Baptist; Blaze, Dallas, Maggie, Sam, Merlin and Molly. Pet Therapy is available for any patient at Baptist Medical Center except those with conditions that might be adversely affected by it, and those whose physicians prohibit it. Visit website to see the wonderful dogs:
Pet Therapy is offered one day a week; visits are available made by appointment only. If you would like pet therapy, simply ask your nurse to request it for you.

Batson Children's Hospital 2500 State St, 250000 N State St, Jackson, MS 39216 Phone: (601) 815-8010
Lyla, Honey and Uno, the canine pet therapy team at Batson Children's Hospital, help patients forget about being ill or injured for a while. When these dogs, ranging from a Shetland sheepdog to a Labrador-chow mix, stop in, they offer children the healing power of petting a dog.
That power, it turns out, is fairly potent. The simple act of petting a dog can lower stress and blood pressure and help humans from children to adults make connections among each other as well as with the canine.
Alan Beck, director of the Center of the Human-Animal Bond at Purdue University, said even a brief visit with a therapy dog can have an effect on young patients!

Shaw Pit Bull Rescue- Pit Bull Awareness Month-
*Volunteer & Socialization Day
Shaw PBR 368 Old New Hope Rd, Columbus, MS 39702
Shaw PBR is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving abused, abandoned or neglected American Pit Bull Terriers. Tuesdays & Thursdays, 8am-3pm and Saturdays*, 8am-Noon *With the exception of one Saturday a month - generally mid-month (We are closed for evaluations). *Please call or text 662.386.7429 to schedule*. https://www.facebook.com/ShawPBR/
We have over 50 years combined experience with pit bulls, and truly believe they are wonderful, loving animals that deserve the chance to have a good life. Over the years, we have seen many cases of irresponsible pet ownership, resulting in dumped, lost, mistreated or surrendered animals. By educating the public about responsible pet ownership issues, we hope to improve the overall welfare of pets in our society.
Originally intending to rehabilitate one to two dogs at a time, we now have 32 adopt-a-bulls - and all are awaiting their forever homes. One major difference of Shaw PBR over most other rescues, and shelters - is that all dogs that come to us are at our facility until new homes are found.
Our adoption fee is only $100. All adopt-a-bulls are spayed or neutered; up-to-date on all vaccinations, including bordetella and rabies; on heart worm preventive; have been treated for heart worms and other parasites; are micro chipped; come with free 30 day pet insurance; collar; and leash. http://www.shawpitbullrescue.com/dogs-ready-for-adoption/ AWESOME organization and website info to help the pitbulls.
